What is Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in the blood. The body needs cholesterol to build healthy cells. However, high levels of cholesterol in the blood can lead to a buildup of plaque in the arteries. This plaque buildup can cause blockages and increase the risk of heart disease, such as heart attack and stroke.
